With only three sleeps to the big day, one of our walkers, Colleen, gives us a bit of insight into what this event means to her.
I’m full of emotions…excitement, nervousness, optimism, dread (of the impending DOMS) but more than anything, I’m full of pride.
I’m proud to be associated with a company like Anywise Consulting, who take such an active interest in giving back to the community, both locally and globally. The Fred Hollows Foundation do such incredible work in their mission to end avoidable blindness and improving Indigenous Australians health. To be able to help contribute to that fight, no matter how small, has been soul nourishing and it is thanks to Anywise Consulting that I’ve been involved.
I’m proud to be a part of our Coastrek team which consists of Jodie, Annie, Adam and myself. My teammates are supportive and nurturing, which will be integral in getting each other over the line. They will keep the experience light-hearted and fun but will know when to give a little push when I’m starting to drag my feet and wishing I was on the couch watching RuPaul’s drag race instead. To surround yourself with positive minded people is the key in completing such a task and I’m thankful that I’ve landed myself with a bunch of them.
Most importantly, I’m proud of myself! Proud that when Jodie asked me to be apart of the team, I didn’t say “30 KM walk around the coast in late May?? Thumbs down emoji!!”…I wanted to say it, but I didn’t. I knew that the experience would be more rewarding then anything I had done in a while, so I dived right in. Coastrek Wild Women on Top is all about empowering women to be active and give to the community and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
So that’s how I’m feeling three days out…it may be a different story Friday night when I’m wallowing in a bath filled with Epsom salts and nursing several hideous blisters but that’s future Colleen’s problem.
