Defence + Industry Events 2024

A number of events have recently been held to support improved collaboration and communication between Defence and Industry.  Anywise attended has just returned from the Defence + Industry Conference in Canberra, filled with inspiration and valuable insights. The theme, "Partnering for Success," set the stage for a gathering of the brightest minds in defence and industry, emphasising the critical importance of collaboration.

A key highlight was hearing from Chris Deeble of CASG and other key defence personnel, who shared their visions and strategies centred on the National Defence Strategy (NDS). This strategy outlines our future defence priorities and goals, underscoring the need for a unified approach to national security.

Discussions around the Defence Integrated Investment Program (IIP) and the Defence Industry Development Strategy (DIDS) were particularly enlightening. It's clear that while collaboration is encouraged and supported, significant structural changes within the industry are required to ensure alignment with these strategies. This includes enhancing our technological capabilities, streamlining processes, and fostering a culture of innovation and agility.

Australian sovereign SMEs play a crucial role in achieving the intent of the DIDS. Recent changes to Commonwealth Procurement Rules highlight the government's commitment to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises. These changes are designed to create more opportunities for SMEs, enabling them to contribute significantly to defence capabilities and innovation.

Direct contracting to Australian SMEs is essential for fostering a resilient and self-reliant defence industry. By leveraging the expertise and agility of these enterprises, we can enhance our sovereign capabilities and ensure that our defence sector remains competitive, innovative and achieves the intent of the DIDS. Investing in local talent and resources not only strengthens our industry but also ensures that we are better equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

Networking with fellow professionals and experts was another valuable aspect of the conference. Exchanging ideas and learning from those equally passionate about defence and industry highlighted the necessity of a collective effort. The sense of community and shared purpose was palpable, but it's evident that achieving our goals will require strategic adjustments and a commitment to continuous improvement.

As we look to the future, the path to success will involve not just forming partnerships but also adapting to new challenges and embracing change. By aligning our efforts with the NDS, IIP, and DIDS, and by supporting Australian sovereign SMEs, we can pave the way for more innovation and success, ensuring that we are well-prepared to meet the demands of the future.

Here's to partnering for success and building a brighter future through collaboration, strategic development, and the empowerment of Australian SMEs! 🔧🚀 #Anywise #PurposeDrivenProjects #DefenceIndustry #PartneringForSuccess #NationalDefenceStrategy #Innovation #Collaboration #SovereignSMEs
