Anywise, a company with a proven track record of delivering mission systems for the military and simplifying capability acquisition and sustainment through its agile "Capability X.0 approach," is spearheading an initiative to establish VICWORX. This collaborative hub is designed to bolster Victoria's advanced manufacturing and defence technology sectors. Inspired by various innovation and commercialisation models running at a pace faster than normal acquisition cycles, VICWORX will address the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in accessing the defence market.
Fishermans Bend, with its rich history in manufacturing and current home to the Defence, Science and Technology Group (DSTG) and numerous defence companies, is the ideal location for this innovative project. VICWORX aims to create a thriving ecosystem by providing affordable warehouse and office space, cutting-edge infrastructure, and secure platforms for collaboration.
The initiative recognises that SMEs often struggle with the costs of doing business and the barriers to entry within the defence industry. VICWORX will facilitate networking and provide new avenues for SMEs to leverage shared expertise and technologies, enabling them to collectively respond to emerging opportunities and Defence needs. This aligns with Anywise's own commitment to streamlining defence acquisition, leveraging its "Capability X.0" methodology to reduce complexity and improve outcomes.
By establishing a chartered organisation, VICWORX will streamline government-industry collaboration, bypassing bureaucratic hurdles and enabling partners to rapidly address emerging challenges. The long-term vision is to create a vibrant, industry-led innovation hub that fosters partnerships between defence SMEs, research institutions, and strategic partners, ultimately supporting Victoria's growth in advanced manufacturing and defence technologies.
VICWORX will provide a secure platform and access to shared facilities, enabling SMEs to conduct rapid prototyping at a low cost. By fostering non-partisan, agile, and inclusive partnerships, the initiative aims to solidify Victoria’s position as a leading hub for defence capability, contributing to national security and economic resilience.
To lay the groundwork and strengthen industry connections, Anywise will conduct a comprehensive program of industry consultation and engagement, with a workshop ebing hosted on the 12th March. Through a series of events and discussions, they will refine the VICWORX approach, strengthen collaborative networks, and develop a roadmap towards a tangible demonstration project.
