Getting Voice Through When the Network is Denied

When a tactical network degrades, voice is the first thing people reach for and the first thing they lose. Jam the bearer, intercept it, or move into terrain that swallows it, and the message stops at the moment it matters most. On Wednesday 5 August we're presenting SWIFT at the ASCA Pitch Day 2026 for Resilient Command and Control, held inside the ADSTAR Summit at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Christopher Dennis, our Head of Growth, is giving the pitch.

What ASCA is Asking Industry to Solve

The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator opened its Resilient Command and Control Request for Information in March 2026 and closed it on 14 April. It set three challenge statements: operating in denied, degraded, intermittent and limited environments, protecting and ensuring resilient C2 capabilities, and recovering degraded C2 networks. Fourteen organisations were invited to pitch. We're one of them, alongside Lockheed Martin Australia, Boeing Defence Australia, the Australian National University, Q-CTRL and nine others.

What makes the problem hard is that the usual answers cost something a force cannot easily spare. Add a bearer and you add procurement, training and another thing to carry. Add hardware and you commit to a fleet-wide upgrade. Encrypt harder and you still hand an adversary a single stream to find and sit on. The question worth asking is whether resilience can be built into how a message travels, using the radios a unit already operates.

What Splitting the Message Buys You

SWIFT takes a voice message and splits it across several bearers at once, then reassembles it at the far end. No single bearer ever carries the whole thing. That one design decision changes the arithmetic in several directions at the same time.

Lose a bearer and the message still completes. Intercept one and an adversary gets a meaningless fragment.

SWIFT is part of SENTIA, the wider system our products plug into, which means delivery is something you can prove rather than assume: did the message arrive, and did it arrive intact. On maturity, SWIFT sits at TRL 4, tested on commercial off the shelf bearers. That's where the work stands today, and the next step is proving it on the radios units already carry.
